Laughter Yoga

Laughter Yoga was invented by Dr Madan Kataria in 1995. He was researching the effect laughter had on the mind and body and discovered that the brain does not distinguish between real and fake laughter. He also found that if you laughed for approximately 15 minutes the brain released the hormone serotonin (happy hormone) into the body and so making you feel happier and more positive.

There are 4 parts to Laughter Yoga: Clapping, Breathing, Child-like playfulness and Laughter exercises. You do need to have a very open mind and be willing to try.  For some it is difficult to let go of inhibitions and just have a go, but if you do try it I am sure you will feel the benefits. If done on a regular basis it can improve your mood, make you feel more positive about life and more able to cope with the challenges that life throws at us all from time to time. It can help with concentration and is a great way of team building.  It can also improve your cardio-vascular system by using breathing techniques and we can also find benefit in working out our core muscles โ€“ just by laughing.

Talks and sessions on Laughter Yoga are by appointment only.ย  Enquiries from community groups or Womenโ€™s Institutes are welcome.ย  Please contact Anne
