Reiki
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a system of natural hands-on healing which has been around for thousands of years but was rediscovered in Japan 100 years ago. It is profoundly relaxing, helping to still the mind, heal the body and bring inner peace. Reiki means 'universal life energy', the vital energy around and within all living things.
Reiki evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui who was inspired to develop this healing system from ancient teachings after many years of study, research and meditation. He spent the rest of his life practising and teaching Reiki. Today Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from Master to student.
There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment. The only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.
What happens during a Reiki treatment?
You simply lie fully clothed on a couch and relax. If you are unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position. The important thing is that you are as comfortable as possible. I then gently place my hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which covers the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms.
How long does a Reiki treatment last?
A full treatment usually takes one hour however a shorter treatment can be given if necessary. For maximum benefit it is recommended that a course of at least four treatments is taken, particularly if you have been suffering from a chronic condition for a number of years.
